Canine First Aid

Canine First Aid

Prepared for the unexpected.

Canine First Aid Training

I’ve completed accredited Canine First Aid training, equipping me to recognise emergencies, provide appropriate first aid within the limits of my training, and seek veterinary treatment without unnecessary delay.

What My Training Covered

My practical Canine First Aid training included:

  • Assessing an injured or unwell dog
  • Airway, breathing and circulation (ABC)
  • Safe handling and restraint
  • Recognising signs of pain and illness
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Choking emergencies
  • Bleeding and wound management
  • Heatstroke and hypothermia
  • Poisoning and allergic reactions
  • Fractures, burns and other common injuries
  • Emergency transport
  • Knowing when urgent veterinary treatment is required

Working Within My Training

Canine First Aid provides immediate care until veterinary treatment is available. Under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, first aid may be given in an emergency to preserve life or relieve pain and suffering. My role is to provide appropriate first aid within the limits of my training and ensure your dog receives veterinary attention without unnecessary delay.

Continuing Professional Development

I’ll continue to keep my knowledge up to date through ongoing professional development and refresher training.
