Dog Sitting FAQs

Here are some of the questions I’m asked most often. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please get in touch.

What happens before my first booking?

When you first contact me, we will arrange a mutually convenient date and time for a Meet & Greet to get to know ech other and make sure I am a good fit for your dogs.  (It’s taken for granted that your dog will like me, although I would like to think this wouldn’t be a problem, but you need to be happy in the knowledge that we get along.

Are you able to care for dogs with additional needs?

Yes, I am experienced in caring for dogs with additional needs, including medication, senior care, and specific behavioural requirements with input from your trainer or behaviourist to maintain consistency. These can be discussed in detail during your Meet & Greet.  I welcome instruction sheets to offer you the peace of mind that your dog will be cared for according to your wishes and those of your vet.

Will you keep to my dog's usual routine?

Wherever possible, yes, absolutely.  This is an important part of your dog’s care and not all dogs are the same which is why I ask you to complete a rather extensive form after the meet & greet and prior to my first appointment.

Is my dog looked after by the same person throughout my booking?

Yes, as much as possible, I will be the person caring for your dog.  Should something happen where I am unable to carry out the sit and I am able to give you plenty of notice, I will let you know as soon as I do.  You can then either cancel the service or my son can cover for me.  (He is also DBS checked, has vast experience with a number of breeds and will shortly be doing his canine first aid.

Do I receive regular updates?

You can have as many as you wish.  I tend to use WhatsApp for updates and messaging as it is the most reliable method (at the moment!)  Sometimes the photos start to get a bit ‘samey’ from experience, but this doesn’t put most owners off and they are more than happy to receive messages.  However, I do sometimes forget, I won’t lie, and I do welcome messages from you asking how things are going.

Could my dog stay in your home instead?

No, I am not insured or licensed to care for your dog in my home.

Why do you have a weather and safety policy?

The welfare of your dog is paramount and it’s usually a lot easier to keep your dog entertained and stagger their exercise time when I am caring for them at their own home.

If the weather is too hot, your dog will be walked either early morning or in the evening when temperatures are cooler. If your dog does not like cold weather I will not force them to go out in the cold other than for toileting. In both cases, enrichment exercises will be given to your dog to keep them stimulated.

The decision on whether your dog can be walked or not lies solely with me as their guardian while you are away.

Do you allow dogs off lead?

Not unless they are in a secure dog field.

How do you prepare for emergencies?

As a dog professional, I understand the importance of reliability. I’m proud to have strong support, including my son who is also an experienced and dedicated dog sitter.

All your communications from the minute we meet to any instructions or updates are kept in folders purely for each client so that there is a clear record of everything concerning your dog and your home.

What makes your service different?

I offer a highly personalised, one-to-one service tailored entirely to your dog. I never overbook, ensuring your pet receives dedicated care, consistency, and genuine companionship in the comfort of their own home.

My aim is simple: to give you complete peace of mind, knowing your dog is safe, happy and loved until you return home.
